Commercial Road & Wellsite Maintenance
Oilfield road maintenance and grading is the bulk of what Backroad Contracting does. Based in Buick Creek, crews maintain oilfield access roads, lease roads and wellsites for oil and gas operators across the Peace Region. Access has to stay open in freeze-up, breakup and wet summer conditions, so work is scheduled around your operations and crews keep rigs, service trucks and equipment moving.
Typical work includes grading and shaping road surfaces, restoring crown and drainage, repairing soft spots and rutting, maintaining lease surfaces and general site upkeep between projects. Maintenance can be arranged as a single call-out or as ongoing seasonal work on a group of sites.

Civil, Rural & Private Road Maintenance
Civil and resource road work is the core of this service. Backroad Contracting grades, shapes, gravels and maintains the roads that oilfield, industrial, commercial and resource traffic depends on throughout Northeast British Columbia, including seasonal maintenance through spring breakup and heavy-rain periods.
The same graders, packers and trucks also handle rural and private roads, farm and acreage access, driveways and approaches. Whether it is a resource road or a long rural driveway, the goal is the same: a properly crowned, well-drained surface that holds up to traffic and weather.

Wellsite Remediation & Reclamation
Backroad Contracting provides the equipment and field crews used to return disturbed industrial locations to a stable, vegetated condition, working to the plan and direction provided by the client or their consultant.
Work commonly includes recontouring the site, replacing and preparing soil, cleaning up remaining material, and seeding and revegetating the surface so the location can be re-established. Crews are used to remote leases where the work has to be completed in a single mobilization.

Gravel Hauling
Backroad Contracting hauls gravel, aggregate and road-building material to industrial, commercial and rural projects throughout Fort St. John and the surrounding Peace Region, including remote locations well off the highway network.
Hauling can be supplied on its own or combined with our road maintenance and earthworks crews, so material can be placed, spread and compacted as part of the same job rather than coordinated between separate contractors.

Contaminated Dirt Hauling
Backroad Contracting transports contaminated soil and material for industrial and remediation projects, hauling from the site to the destination specified by the client or their consultant.
Backroad Contracting provides transportation only. Contamination is identified, classified and directed by the client or their environmental consultant; we do not perform environmental assessment or operate disposal facilities.

Vegetation & Noxious Weed Management
Backroad Contracting provides industrial vegetation management and noxious weed control for industrial sites, well leases, roadsides, rights-of-way, rural properties and reclamation areas throughout Northeast British Columbia. Controlling weeds keeps leases compliant, keeps sightlines and access clear, and protects reclaimed ground while it establishes.
Work is carried out by personnel holding Industrial Vegetation & Noxious Weed Control Applicator and Pesticide Applicator Assistant certification, and includes remote and difficult-access locations — where conventional access is unavailable, crews, equipment and supplies can be flown in with helicopter support and application is performed on the ground.

Mulching & Fencing
Backroad Contracting mulches and mows brush on lease sites, ditches, roadsides and fencelines throughout Northeast BC. Clearing regrowth keeps old lease sites and access roads usable, restores sightlines and drainage, and makes ongoing maintenance easier.
The same crews handle fencing work on rural, oilfield and industrial property, from new fence construction to repairs where existing fence has been damaged or grown in.
